Need a Writing-Business Mentor?
Writers should be able to find good-paying markets for their work and earn professional rates. I’ve found many writers have the creative wordplay down, but the business-marketing and self-confidence—not so much.
Talk to a pro.
There’s one way to save yourself a lot of wasted time and effort — work a proven coaching program with an experienced freelance writer and coach. I’ve helped thousands of writers earn more through my community site, and can share best practices on what really works today.
Over the years, I’ve developed several proven mentoring programs with 1-on-1 coaching included, for freelance writers and bloggers.
Learn and get support
I created Freelance Writers Den in 2011, to help new writers—and writers new to freelancing—find the answers and support they need to launch their careers. When newbies come to me for coaching, I recommend they first join the Den, which is just $25 a month with no contract or obligation.
In my membership community, you’ll have access to 24/7 forums where you can ask questions of me and other pro writers and editors. Stop wondering about ‘how it’s done’ and find out!
You can also attend live Q&As with experts, or check out our 300+ hours of trainings. Our bootcamps have helped thousands of writers learn how to get started, avoid scams and time-wasters, and quickly build a portfolio they can use to get great gigs. We have a wide range of member benefits, including a complimentary 1-on-1 coaching session with me for Den members who subscribe for a full year.
Do you need affordable help to discover how to earn more from your writing? If so, check out Freelance Writers Den. If we’re closed, hop on our waiting list for first crack at a seat:
Double your writing income–fast
My primary mentoring program is the Freelance Writers Den 2X Income Accelerator for mid-career freelance writers. If you’ve been working at least a full year and earn at least $20,000 per year or more from freelance writing, this focused six-month program provides a proven Road Map to doubling your income. You’ll work in a small group of up to 25 writers at a similar point in their careers, and support each others’ efforts.
Den 2X combines monthly small-group masterminds and open Q&A Office Hours with two 1-on-1 coaching sessions over the course of the program. There’s also an active, 24/7 Slack mastermind thread for asking questions and getting peer support. I work with a maximum of 50 writers at any given time. At the conclusion of your program, you retain access to your materials and are invited into my Den 2X Grads Group for ongoing networking and support.
Membership in Den 2X is by application only. Our grads’ testimonials speak for themselves, so take a look if this sounds like a fit for you…

Coaching help for struggling freelance writers
The New Freelance Writer’s Launchpad is a 90-day mastermind that offers a dynamic combination of 1-to-1 and small-group career coaching for under-earning freelance writers (less than $20,000 per year in writing income). You can check out the New Freelance Writer’s LaunchPad page for testimonials, course details, and a link to the application form.
When does it happen? New classes form as there is interest, as it takes a critical mass of motivated writers to make the group-coaching magic happen. If you’re interested, apply now — I’ll be offering some free group-coaching opportunities in the near future to learn more about low-earning writers’ coaching needs.

Why I Don’t Do One-on-One Mentoring
I used to do 1-on-1 mentoring for a flat fee, as a one-off—and I don’t anymore, without the context of a group mastermind. I offer my mastermind students 1-on-1 sessions. Here’s why:
Meeting with a coach 1-on-1, just you and an experienced mentor, is not nearly as effective OR affordable as coaching that takes place within a peer group.
Period. I’ve been coaching for about 7 years now, and the success rate with coaching within a mastermind is far better.
Lots of coaches are still happy to take your money for 1-on-1 sessions… but the track record of my mastermind groups speaks for itself.
I want my coaching to get RESULTS, and mastermind coaching seems to be what does it for freelance writers and bloggers. So that’s what I do.
Here’s the story of how I started mentoring:
Many years ago, I began coaching friends informally, giving them tips and advice about how they could grow their income. I was amazed when some of my mentees soon were writing for better-paying national markets than I was! I love seeing others ignite their writing careers and become successful freelancers.
When you hire me as a mentor, you get a seasoned mentor who’s been helping writers one-on-one for nearly a decade, and a writer with more than a decade of freelance experience. I’m still actively freelancing, too, so my knowledge of markets and marketing methods is current.
Her advice has already landed me more money in a single contract than I’ve ever secured on my own.
“I think Carol is amazing — not only does she know the business, but she truly GETS it, and her advice has already landed me more money in a single contract than I’ve ever secured on my own. I highly recommend Carol and her mentoring program. I appreciate what she did for me more than I can possibly express.” —Angie Atkinson
